Our 2nd graders at Burns Park have just finished their first PLTW unit! Just like engineers and inventors, they completed the design process to solve a real world problem.
Our driving question:
Angelina, Suzi, and Mylo are all on a soccer team. Angelina leaves her cooler at home and needs a way to keep her ice pops frozen. How could we invent a cooler to keep ice pops frozen?
Students learned about conductors, insulators, and states of matter as they explored and gathered knowledge to construct an invention to keep an ice pop cold!
Yesterday was the big day! Students made their designs come to life as they constructed and tested their invention. We put a frozen ice pop under a heat lamp. Then we tested how much liquid had melted. Students worked together, designed, built, shared materials, and had fun!
