Over the last several weeks, 5th grade students have been working on building, designing, and testing a robot that can move hazardous waste to a collection zone. After exploring the inputs and outputs of different robotic sensors, students used teamwork and collaboration to build a robot and add various parts to their design in order to safely and efficiently avoid water and fire (red zones).
The students also learned about criteria and constraints. Their robot only had 2 minutes to move at least 3 blocks to a collection zone, and they had to use the color sensor. It was a challenging and engaging way to learn about robotics and engineering.
